Christmas Newsletter 2017
Well as many of you know, I like to write to you towards the end of the year to let you know what we have been up to, and what our ambitions are for the next year! 2017 has come with its challenges, but we have worked through them as a team, and we look forward to 2018 as another year older, and another year wiser! (well in theory anyway!)
Let me start with my ‘Podiatry Family’..... Team doesn’t seem like the right word to use, because we are more like a family. Sustaining a small business means that there are many times when everyone starts work early, finishes late, works through their lunch hour, and gives up their weekend to go on training. All of my Podiatry family do this on a regular basis, without ever being asked to do it. They are completely dedicated to me, the business and to you, and it is this group of people that are the real essence of StEPS Podiatry. Our small family has changed this year…. We said a tearful goodbye to our administrator Emma, but soon after welcomed Clare Lumsden. Clare is a Troon girl, and many years ago, her and I used to play the piano for our St Meddans church praise group. Clare is very experienced in administration, and is also dementia trained. She will be a familiar face to many of you in Troon, and looks forward to assisting all of our patients with any of their queries.
We have also welcomed Karen Harkins to our new Largs clinic! Karen will be based in Largs as an administrator and to lead our marketing. We are very excited to have this skilled lady bringing het marketeer skills to our business. So, it would seem that we are now a 6 female strong team, and Girl Power will lead us into 2018!
On July 10th we opened our new clinic in Largs! We are so excited about this, and already have big plans for this clinic! It is two commercial properties knocked into one, so there is a lot of scope for development. I am currently based there myself four days a week with Allison one day, but I hope to be able to afford to recruit a new Podiatrist to assist us and extend our hours in the new year.
We also invested in some new equipment in our Troon clinic this year. The optogait is a gait analysis system that enables us to improve our services for sports injuries. Many of you ask about the work that I do in the Middle East. I continue to work on this (quietly in the background!) and it is my absolute intention to further develop the StEPS brand across the UAE. We have already made some significant steps to move into this market, and it remains a large part of our vision.
Finally, it would not be a typical letter from me if I did not mention the two special little people that I do it all for! My lovely twin daughters Alys and Jessica are now 5 years old, and started primary 1 in August. Many of you will remember when they were born, and what a 5 years it has been! They have decided that they will work in the clinics when they are older…. Alys in Largs and Jessica in Troon…. So I better keep going so as not to disappoint them!
As always, I want to thank each and every one of you most sincerely for supporting us. I always look back on the past year and think about how I could have done things better! As I reflect on these times, I hope to take what I have learned into the next year, and to keep developing StEPS Podiatry into the best Podiatry service that I can! I am genuinely delighted to hear from anyone who has any queries, questions, comments or suggestions!
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year!
